myAgro

myAgro's mission is to help small scale farmers get out poverty. myAgro is based in rural Mali and will work with 200 farmers in 2012, with the goal of rapidly expanding to 75,000 farmers by 2017.

We help farmers purchase the tools they need on layaway, via an SMS platform and a network of local village vendors. With myAgro's flexible and convenient savings system, farmers are able to purchase fertilizer and certified seed to improve their harvests. After farmers save for their specific package, myAgro delivers the fertilizer and seed to the vendor's store at planting time for immediate pick up and use. We provide technical trainings, such as micro-dosing fertilizer, to help farmers increase their harvests and conserve their land fertility.

Mali is one the poorest countries in the world and recently was listed as number 175 on the UN's Human Development Index. 51% of the population lives on under $1.25/day and 68% live in severe poverty.

Despite these challenges, Mali is also a great place for opportunity. Bamako is the fastest growing city in Africa and the 6th fastest growing country in the world. 70% of Malians work in agriculture and have an average of 5 hectares or more of land.

Malian farmers, if connected to the right inputs, markets and affordable financial services, can get out poverty, and help feed a growing country and region in the process. Our training methods ensure that they do so sustainably and conserve their land quality along the way.
