Established in 1996, the Chemical Strategies Partnership
seeks to reduce chemical use, waste, risks, and cost through the transformation
of the chemical supply chain by redefining the way chemicals are used and
sold. CSP works to:
Reduce the use and release of toxic chemicals and
quantify these reductions
Promote chemical management services
as an economic and environmental best practice in manufacturing
Empower customers and suppliers to recognize the
true costs of chemical use
CSP has been testing an emerging concept, chemical
management services, as a means to achieve chemical use reduction. Chemical
management services or chemical services promises to fundamentally
redefine the way chemicals are purchased, used, and managed. This new economic
model encourages and rewards chemical suppliers for providing their customers
with services, rather than following the current model in which suppliers
are paid for the volume of chemicals sold. Chemical services offer significant
potential for reducing chemical use and environmental impact across many
industry sectors.
CSP has pursued varied programs rooted in hands-on collaboration with manufacturing
firms. Having demonstrated the business and environmental value of the model,
CSP is increasingly focused on disseminating the model and introducing chemical
services into new sectors.
